Selecting a Method for Planned Giving

Making a gift to The National Heart Council, a special program of the National Emergency Medicine Association - whether during your lifetime or through your will -- is one of the most gratifying acts a person can perform. You know that your gift will go to support an organization whose goals and ideals you share.

Bequests are a source of support for research into the causes, treatment and prevention of Heart diseases. Here are three straightforward ways you can make a gift of consequences to secure the future of National Heart Council's research and education programs:

1. Include the National Heart Council in your will, or as beneficiary of your Life Insurance. Doing so remains the easiest way to support our work with a major Contribution.
2. Give a gift of real estate: a lot, a house, a business building -- any real property. This form of giving is widespread and allows you to escape capital gains taxes, while taking a tax deduction equal to the property's appreciated value. This tax benefit magnifies your generosity and saves you taxes.
3. A gift of stock or bonds can provide a similar tax benefit. These gifts are easy to give and provide excellent tax benefits for you, the giver.
4. Personal items of art, jewelry, silver, antique furniture, rare books or other collections can be donated and this will reduce your Estate Tax obligation accordingly.

Poplar ways of making a bequest

Many donors provide for the continuing support of the National Heart Council through bequests. Here are a few popular ways of making bequests:

Residue

(What remains after other bequests have been granted)

"All (or, alternatively, "_________% of") the residue of my estate, including real and personal property, I give, devise and bequeath to the National Heart Council of Baltimore, Maryland."
