Topic: Herbal tools, not miracles
Host/Producer: Steve Girard
NEMA: Herbal tools, not miracles...coming up...
SPOT: PLAY A ROLE IN THE FIGHT AGAINST STROKE, HEART DISEASE AND TRAUMA...CALL THE NATIONAL EMERGENCY MEDICINE ASSOCIATION AT 800-332-6362.
NEMA: Dr. Jerzy Jankun and colleagues at the Medical College of Ohio have found that compounds found in green tea outperform all other compounds in restricting the growth of cancers...and their research appeared in the June 5th edition of the journal Nature. Before the discovery, you wouldn't exactly find Dr. Jankun at the checkout in the health food pharmacy...
JANKUN: I was a firm unbeliever in home remedies and that kind of natural products medicine...garlic, soybeans...even green tea.
NEMA: Dr. Jankun says after the findings, he had his first cup...but emphasizes you talk with your doctor before you start drinking it...
JANKUN: It's a very interesting finding, it's a very promising finding. But FDA does not approve it, it's not in a therapy yet, and it's not on a clinical study...so, be extremely careful.
NEMA: Research continues to find out why the polyphenol compounds in green tea are so powerful, and still safe...I'm Steve Girard at The Heart of the Matter.
