NEMA: Live Long, Die Fast...a book from Dr. John Bland of the University of Vermont...sounds harsh, but it’s a guide to getting all we can out of life as we age. Dr. Bland says our bodies are built to last a long time...and die quickly...

BLAND: The point being that we’re programmed to something around 120, and your, if you don’t have one or more of the 6 diseases we’re dying of between 65 and 80, then you’re not going to get those diseases.

NEMA: If we can avoid those diseases, our bodies run on our genes, and we’re much more likely to live to 100 or more...

BLAND: Two things I’m totally, irrevocably certain of...and one is, I shall be dead someday...and two is, I’m not dead now...and so I want, and want to teach people to do everything they can do to realize our maximum lifespan.

NEMA: Live Long, Die Fast offers solid advice on how to keep body and mind sharp for the really long haul. I’m Steve Girard at The Heart of the Matter.
